Reflective Prayer
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. (Psalm 46:10)
In the Gospels Jesus’ pattern of retreating to a secret place privately is mentioned over 40 times. There are references to him going "into the hills to pray," of "spending the night in prayer," of "rising before dawn to go out to a lonely place to pray."
Through the disciplines of stillness, silence, and solitude we are entering into God’s presence, we experience hearing God’s voice, and receive God’s Grace. This empowers us to become God’s family and advance God’s kingdom.
We must learn to quiet our inner being to identify the external distractions and the internal chaos. In solitude and stillness we learn how to let our behaviour be shaped not by the compulsions of the city but by our new mind, the mind of Christ.

'Reading without medetation is sterile. Medetation without reading is prone to error. Prayer without medetation is lukewarm. Medetation without prayer is barren. Prayer with devotion achieves contemplation.'
