What was the genesis of this vision?
Is this God’s will? Have we really sought His will?
How do the building plans fit with our vision? Why are we doing it?
Why do we need to be bigger? What is the Minster vision?
Can we not use St Alban’s as some sort of resource centre?
Are we empire building? Is a bigger church a good thing?
How much space are we building?
How exactly are we going to use the extra space?
We talk about needing more space but the church is not full. Can we use existing space more effectively?
Will this not have a detrimental effect on St Alban’s and Riverside?
Will we not see large staff resources being diverted from building up the congregation to building up the building?
How are we going to get more people to join the church?
Surely we should not embark on this project until we have a bigger congregation/a better congregation (better at local mission/better at community etc)
Why not plant churches in the area, e.g. St Alban’s?
Will this not make a church plant less likely?
Can we do what we want to do at another site? What happened to the proposed development at Sussex Place?
Can we not build on another part of the site something less ambitious?
Are there any other buildings we could use or buy?
Who will make the decisions? Will there be a vote?
Who is going to manage this project? Are they reliable?
Can it be done in stages with a cheaper version now and expand the building later?
How long will it take?
Can we design the building in an environmentally friendly way?
Is the extension going to be welcoming enough?
Isn't the building going to be too imposing on the green areas causing a public backlash?
How much will it cost to build? How about cost over runs?
Where will the funds come from? How do we go about raising the funds?
At what point will we commission the start of the construction work?
What if we don’t raise all the money we need but only some of it? Who will be liable?
How can we justify spending this amount of money when people are starving in the world?
After building, how much will it cost to run? Or, put another way, how are you going to fund all the extra resources (people and money) these extra activities will need?
If we use up the Trust fund, we won’t have any left for running costs. How will we cope? Are we not over expanding?
Have others faced these issues?
