    Role Purpose

    The Coffee Shop Manager will oversee and manage the daily operations of the church coffee shop, ensuring excellence in hospitality, service, and innovation. The role involves building and leading a team of baristas, managing finances, developing innovative practices, and embedding a culture of warmth, generosity, and hospitality aligned with the church’s values. The ultimate aim of this role is to create an environment where unstructured yet meaningful encounters occur, relationships are fostered, and discipleship, mentoring, pastoral support, and community thrive.

    Key Responsibilities

    Team Leadership and Training

    • Recruit, manage, train, and mentor a team of baristas, ensuring high standards of customer service and hospitality.

    • Develop the team to embody and communicate the culture and ethos of Saint Paul’s Church and the coffee shop.

    • Create rotas to ensure appropriate staffing levels for the coffee shop, internal ministry events, and external bookings.

    Operational Excellence

    • Oversee the daily operation of the coffee shop, ensuring high standards of quality, cleanliness, and service are consistently maintained.

    • Manage ordering and inventory of consumables such as coffee beans, milk, cups, food items, and other supplies.

    • Ensure the church kitchen area is clean, well-organised, compliant with health and safety regulations, and fit for purpose.

    • Maintain excellent barista skills and be able to train staff to consistently deliver high-quality coffee and beverages.

    Financial Management

    • Manage the coffee shop’s income and expenditure effectively, working towards financial sustainability.

    • Provide regular reports on financial performance, including sales trends, profit margins, and expenditure control, to the Head of Logistics.

    • Implement effective financial controls and processes to monitor stock, reduce waste, and maximise profitability.

    Innovation and Development

    • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in the coffee shop’s products, menus, operations, and customer experience.

    • Participate actively in the strategic development and growth of the coffee shop, transitioning to a fully operational ministry within the church.

    Contractor and Supplier Management

    • Manage the relationship with the coffee provider, ensuring quality, consistency, and cost-effectiveness.

    • Oversee relationships and contracts with other relevant service providers, ensuring quality service delivery and best value for money.

    Collaboration and Support

    • Work closely with ministry teams at Saint Paul’s to provide catering and hospitality support for church events, meetings, and activities.

    • Coordinate closely with the Bookings Manager to ensure external events receive high-quality coffee shop services and support.

    • Collaborate with the Social Transformation team, supporting their initiatives and leveraging the coffee shop’s potential for community engagement and social impact.

    Essential Skills and Experience

    • Proven experience managing or supervising in a coffee shop, café, hospitality environment, or similar setting.

    • Exceptional barista skills with in-depth knowledge of coffee preparation and beverage excellence.

    • Demonstrated leadership ability, with experience managing and training staff.

    • Strong operational and organisational skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to high standards.

    • Experience in stock management, financial budgeting, income/expenditure management, and report production.

    • A passion for hospitality and a track record of delivering excellent customer service.

    • Ability to innovate and implement new ideas, products, and operational practices.

    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.

    Additional Skills (Desirable)

    • Familiarity with church ministry or community engagement settings.

    • Experience developing or producing homemade food items such as cookies, muffins or pastries for sale.

    • Food hygiene qualifications or willingness to undertake training.

    • Proficient in IT systems, including MS Office, POS systems, and inventory management software.

    Working Requirements

    Key Church Services and Events

    • Annual Parochial Church Meeting, Church Weekend, and select evening events.

    • Easter and Christmas services.

    • Staff events, including an annual retreat (typically one week in January).

    Package

    • Salary: £28,000–£30,000 pro rata (3.5 days per week)

    • Holiday: 25 days FTE plus bank holidays and your birthday (pro rata)

    • Benefits: Employer pension contribution, annual offsite staff retreat, ongoing training, and development opportunities

As our community grows, we are seeking friendly and practical individuals to join our Site Support Team, ensuring our services and events run smoothly.

    Role Overview:

    As a Site Support Team Member, you will play a crucial role in the logistical and hospitality aspects of our church services and events. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Venue Preparation: Setting up and resetting chairs and equipment for services and events.

    • Opening and Closing: Ensuring the church is securely opened before and locked after events.

    • Health & Safety: Monitoring the premises to ensure safety protocols are followed.

    • Hospitality Support: Assisting the Hospitality Team in welcoming attendees and addressing any queries.

    • Grounds Patrol: Regularly checking the church grounds to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.

    Working Hours:

    This is a casual role offering flexible hours based on your availability. Support is primarily required on Sundays, with additional opportunities during midweek events, including weekday evenings and occasional daytime activities. Typical shift patterns include:

    • Sunday Morning Shift: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM

    • Sunday Evening Shift: 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM

    • Weekday Evening Shift: Typically from 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM (times may vary depending on the specific event)

    • Daytime Activities: Occasionally required to support events during weekdays, as needed.

    You do not need to be available for all these shifts, as we can tailor your rota around your current schedule and availability.

    Remuneration:

    • Hourly Rate: £13.85 (aligned with the current London Living Wage)

  • Saint Paul’s Hammersmith – Volunteer Receptionist

    Helping people feel welcome at Saint Paul’s Hammersmith

    Location: Saint Paul’s Hammersmith, W6 9PJ

    Reports to: Director of Operations

    What’s the Role?

    We’re looking for someone to sit at our front desk and be a warm, friendly face to everyone who comes into the church during the week.

    You’ll help people find where they need to go, take in deliveries, and make sure the building feels welcoming and calm.

    What You’ll Do

    • Smile and say hello to everyone who comes in

    • Point people in the right direction – to the café, meeting rooms, or charity spaces

    • Be kind and approachable to anyone who needs a bit of help

    • Take in deliveries and let the café or staff know

    That’s it! Just be present, friendly, and helpful.

    What We’re Looking For

    You don’t need experience, just a warm heart and a willingness to be there. Ideally, you are:

    • Friendly and calm

    • Someone who enjoys being around people

    • Reliable and happy to help

    When?

    Flexible times – morning, afternoon, or a full day. You choose what works for you.

    Please note that this is a volunteer role (unpaid), but it’s a lovely way to serve the church, meet people, and make a real difference just by showing up.

  • Location: Hammersmith, office-based

    Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

    Hours: Monday - Friday, 9.30am - 5.30pm (With some out-of-hours work needed for events such as our Spear Celebrations)

    Salary: from £25,300
