foundations

Foundations is our introduction to discipleship at Saint Paul’s.

Whether you’ve been a Christian for years or you’re just starting out on the journey of following Jesus, Foundations is a great way to meet people and go deeper in your walk with God.

If you’ve recently joined Saint Paul’s, this is the best way to get connected into the life of the church and hear more about our heart and vision as a church.

Upcoming Dates: 23rd September-2nd December, 7-9:15pm.

Across the course we’ll cover..

  • In this session, we’ll introduce the course and talk about what we mean by discipleship and some of the priorities we feel called to as a church. Based on Luke 5, we’ll explore how an encounter with Jesus changes us and leads us to awaken the people and environments He calls us into.

  • We were made for encounter – to know God not just in our minds, but with our whole beings. This session explores what it means for us to prioritise God’s presence and encounter him in every moment of our lives.

  • Who am I? The answer to this fundamental human question shapes the trajectory of our lives – how we live in relationships, what we do with our time, where we look for affirmation, how we define success and, ultimately, how we relate to God. This session will explore the truth that we are called sons and daughters of God and the difference this makes.

  • The Bible is the foundation of our faith and the inspired Word of God, but it’s also a collection of books written thousands of years ago – so how do we read it well and understand how God speaks through Scripture to us today? This session will explore what the Bible is, how we read it well and what it means for the Bible to be the ultimate authority for our lives.

  • In Luke 11, the disciples ask Jesus to teach them to pray. He responds by giving them a blueprint for intimacy and connection with the Father and an invitation to ask for God’s will to be done ‘on earth as it is in heaven’. This session will look at the power and promise of prayer and some keys to grow in our everyday walk with God.

  • Walking with Jesus is a lifelong journey – through the ups and downs, seasons of transition and change, moments of joy and moments of pain. This session will be an interview with some amazing members of our community, talking through the nitty gritty of following Jesus in every season and learning habits that will develop strength and resilience in us over the course of a lifetime.

  • John 15:15 says that Jesus no longer calls us servants – those who do things for God or imitate the things he does – but friends, invited into a life of intimacy and friendship with him through the gift of the Holy Spirit. This session will explore how we can cultivate friendship with the Holy Spirit and live a life marked by His power and authority.

  • The Christian life isn’t just about our personal relationship with God, but as he calls us to follow him, Jesus empowers and sends us to awaken the places that he sends us to. This session will explore what we mean by ‘awakening’ and how each of us can live an empowered life in our family, community and workplace.

  • We were made for relationship – relationship with God and relationship with others. This session will explore the importance of relationships in our faith and how we can cultivate depth and health in every part of our relational life – in our church community, families and friendships.

  • In Luke 4, Jesus declares His mission: to bring good news to the poor, freedom for the imprisoned, sight for the blind, and release for the oppressed. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, He steps into this calling—and invites us to do the same. In this session, we’ll explore how the Spirit empowers us to partner with God in mission through our everyday lives.
